The Theme of this Series is "Life through Death: The Redemptive Capacity of Humor"

Spiritual writers over the millennia have reminded us of humor's capacity to sustain us through life's difficulties. Humor is rooted in humility, honesty and the ability to see beyond our own narrow lens on life. In times of struggle, we often feel isolated from others and incapable of being understood. Humor deflates our tendency to view ourselves as the center of the universe. It helps us see ourselves as related to others and through them to our God Who entered the human mystery and enjoyed the company of family and friends. The ability to enjoy busts open our defenses and helps us see our futile attempts to be gods unto ourselves. The Cross takes us through the death of self-sufficiency into a life-giving dependence upon God. Artists invite us to laugh at ourselves and thus be encouraged as we gradually accept the redemption offered us by our God Who suffered, died and rose to the fullness of life.

The Maryknoll International Film Festival, sponsored by the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers will run for its fifth season starting September 9th, 2011.
