Leadership Training Program, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, San Pedro Sula

The human promotion project being presented represents one of the essential efforts of evangelization in the parish, reflected in Pope Paul VI´s teachings in his encycliclical "Evangelii Nuntiandi", and expresses the community´s attempt to incarnate the beatitudes in everyday life.

The reality of the parish is one in which the social-cultural context is that of poverty, constant threat of violence, insecurity, illiteracy, inadequate education and health services, disintegration of the family, unemployment or underemployment; social exclusion of the woman; and a list of other basic human needs. In the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish this essential type of evangelization is aimed a dignifying the people who come to us seeking meaning in their lives in their situation of being the excluded from these basic human rights.

The parish programs include:

• the integral formation of women,
• a literacy program that ranges from primary education to a high school degree, including certification from the Department of Education,
• defense of the rights people denied legitimate legal protection,
• working within the diocesan program of social pastoral concerns and support of workers unions.

The human promotion program is an ongoing work in the parish, dignifying people, inviting colaboration in the work with those in need and a sign of hope in times that hear the constant cry of those excluded from the banquet of life. It is part of the praxis of this community of faith and solidarity in a culture of death.
