Archdiocese of Mombasa CBHC and AIDS Relief Project

Continuation of a project continuously funded since 1996.

The purpose of the project is:

  • to render a community based, comprehensive and free service to PLWHA (people living with HIV/AIDS)

  • to provide free basic health services to other poor people in 10 parishes in Mombasa

  • and to promote good health generally

The Archdiocese of Mombasa CBHC and AIDS Relief Project (CBHC Project) employs a staff of 50 and has 400 volunteers serving over 4000 PLWHA and 2000 other acutely ill and very poor clients in 10 parishes in Mombasa district. These numbers have increased sinc 2008 by over 1,000 new clients.

This is a home based care project utilizing volunteer CHWs (Community Health Workers) and Nurses as well as Counselors and Social Workers to provide comprehensive home based HIV/AIDS care.

The Archdiocese of Mombasa CBHC & AIDS relief project was initiated late 1996 in Bomu parish. In 2008 we served 8 parishes and have expanded to 10 in 2008.

Antiretroviral Therapy
The project currently cares for 320 adults and 60 children with lifesaving antiretroviral drugs. In addition, prophylactic medicine and medical care are given to over 600 clients who will eventually meet the criteria for taking ARV drugs.
